Todd Jay Burraston

1961 ~ 2020

Our gentle giant, Todd J. Burraston, passed away on November 19, 2020 from complications of pancreatic cancer.  Todd was born on December 19, 1961 to Merlyn and Mary Burraston in West Valley, Utah.  He graduated from Granite High School in 1980 and became a mechanic for Holiday Oil.  He met and married Michele Hutchings Burraston on May 21, 1988.  In 1993 he started working for Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office where he has worked diligently for 27+ years, most of those years at Matheson Courthouse.  He also worked part time at R.C. Willey for 26 years at the IDC warehouse.  He became close to many of his coworkers and considered them family.

Besides these two jobs, Todd found time for his passion; working in the yard.  He loved planting trees, shrubs, and flowers, and each summer would make changes which (much to his family’s chagrin) would create a family project.  Todd also loved the outdoors and looked forward to going quad riding, camping, fishing, and hunting.

Todd was very proud of his children, Tyler, Bayle (daughter-in-law), and Jessica, and loved spending time with them and his wife Michele either playing games, watching movies, or just being together.

Todd is survived by his wife, Judith Michele Burrraston, children, Tyler (Bayle) Burraston, Jessica Burraston, and his 4 siblings, Lori (Frank) Reilley, Troy Burraston, Kyle (Lisa) Burraston, and Lisa (Eric) Bird.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Merlyn and Mary Burraston.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Affordable Funerals and Cremations, located at 4387 South 500 West, Murray, Utah.  Funeral services will be held the following day for immediate family only at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meetinghouse on 9376 South 4000 West, West Jordan, Utah.  Interment to be at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery located at 3115 Bengal Boulevard, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.  Friends and family please join us at the viewing and cemetery.

We would like to thank all our family, friends, and neighbors for their overwhelming support during Todd’s illness.  He will be deeply missed.

In compliance with Governor Herbert’s mandate on facial coverings, face masks are required at all services. Social distancing will be enforced.

Please visit with the family at either viewing, but attendance for the funeral service is limited to family and close friends to keep the size of gathering smaller. Thank you.

    Michelle, Jessica and family :

It was so nice to meet you when you invited many of us family law attorneys to your home for the afternoon to spend time with Todd. I and all the Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake attorneys over the years have been the beneficiaries of Todd’s protective care at court hearings. He always looked out for the “newbies” and gave them helpful pointers – such as which table to sit at, turn off cell phones, give a “heads up” if the Commissioner was having a bad day, etc. As the beautiful obituary notes about Todd’s love of his yard and garden, it was fun to visit your home and see the truth about his immaculate yard. I’m sure it was a great comfort to him to spend his life with you working on his Eden and spend his last months looking out and enjoying the fruits of his labors. I hope that in the near future, the sweet memories of a lifetime will take up more space in your soul, than the sharp pain of loss you feel now. Those of us who love our family are truly fortunate to have those sweet memories to hold in our hearts forever.

Todd was such an amazing human being. I met him as a baby lawyer. He looked out for me from day one. I thought it was because I’m Rick Suarez’s cousin. But it wasn’t. He didn’t knew I was related to Rick until we saw each other at Rick’s funeral. He was always quick with a laugh and to shoot the breeze between hearings. I never forget Todd. My love to you guys. ❤

I was extremely sad to hear Todd had passed away. As kids growing up he was a great friend and example to me and everyone he met. He was a gentle giant and I will never forget the love and kindness that he gave. I pray that our Heavenly Father will bless your family with the comfort, love and support that is needed during these trying times.

As a young boy growing up I was blessed to see Todd’s Christ-like treatment of others! Especially the way he helped our family. The way Todd chose to treat others was one of the greatest lessons I learned growing up, His kindness was evident and he lived what he believed! I am grateful for him and the friendship that I have always felt from the Burraston family

As friends growing up it was a privilege knowing & hanging out with Todd. I never saw a mean bone in his body, such a gentle giant. He was a great example to me, always doing the right thing. I’m a better man from knowing Todd. Michelle & family, we love you & pray for you during this most difficult time. Todd was one who blessed others continually. So sorry for your loss, we will all miss him.

I am saddened to not have my friend around. While we did not do a lot over last few years. he was and is in my heart. I have many fond memories of Todd. He and I did many things too many to mention here. He was a giving friend a protector and a provider for all he met. words will never e able to fill the void Todd has left on this earth. But one day we will hug again. I love Todd and I sorely miss him. I am not able to attend any of the services because some of my family members have tested positive and i do not want to add more challenges to anyone. I know Todd is in a good place and preparing busily for his sweetheart in the mansion he is not building there. and yes i imagine there will be many trees and flowers to give him solace while he waits his earthly loved ones. He is now with his mom and dad and what a joyous reunion that must have been. I love and admire all of the Burrastons they are strong solid people and have my enduring respect and with much love until we meet again my dear friend .

My heart aches for your loss, Michele, Tyler & Bayle, and Jessica. Please know of my love and sympathy for you. The service (which I am grateful to have been able to watch on Zoom) just concluded, and it was such a beautiful service! A wonderful tribute to Todd and a testament to his goodness and to how much you all love and admire him. He was a wonderful person, and someone to look up to in the way he fulfilled each of his responsibilities. May the Lord comfort and bless you as you continue in living full lives. You will be together again – and forever throughout the eternities. My love to you all!
