Myron Warren Thompson

1929 – 2020

Myron Warren Thompson, age 91, passed away in Provo, Utah on New Years’ Eve morning, December 31, 2020, from natural causes incident to age and complications after a fall that he had on Christmas Eve morning.

Myron was born September 25, 1929, in Clarkston, Utah to Glen Wendell and Lillie Pearlue Buttars Thompson at the family farm where he grew up along with his siblings. He attended High School at North Cache. He attended Utah State University but had to leave school after the sudden death of his father from a car accident when he was 18 years old to take care of the Family Farm.

Two years to the date after his father had passed away Myron began his Missionary Service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southern States Mission headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a Missionary all of his Life. Following his Full-time missionary work, he returned to Utah State University. He was then drafted into the United States Army to serve in The Korean War and 5 days after beginning his Military Service he had an Emergency Leave due to the sudden death of his sister-in-law, also from a car accident. It was while he was on this leave that he and his Sweetheart Karma Hyer decided to get married and were married on November 4, 1953, in the Logan Utah Temple.

He returned to Basic Training and while he was doing additional training at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas Karma was able to be with him as a Military wife. Karma had to return to Logan while Myron continued his Training including Officer Training at Fort Bragg. He then was assigned to Germany due to his high IQ testing and taught Officers English, Math, and Typing, along with doing part-time Secret Service. It was during this time that he helped to capture a Russian Communist Spy. He was honored with a Medal for helping with this and was given an Honorable Discharge on July 20, 1955. Myron returned to Utah and graduated from Utah State University in Secondary Education in Industrial Arts and taught for over 35 years in Utah, Idaho, and California.

It was during this time that Myron and Karma raised their 5 sons Bill, Chris, Alan, Brian, and David. Mostly in South Jordan, Utah where they lived for 32 years. Due to Myron’s expertise in so many areas, he was always serving and helping others. Myron enjoyed working with his hands, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.

After retiring, Myron and Karma served a Mission to the Oregon Eugene Mission for 25 months. Myron also served at the Jordan River Temple as an ordinance worker for 20 years and when the Oquirrh Mountain Temple was built he served there for 18 months until his health no longer allowed him to do so.

Myron is survived by his sons Bill, Chris, and Alan (Sheralyn), his sister ReVoe (Glen) Petersen, sister-in-law Beatrice Thompson and sister-in-law Yvonne Hyer, 16 Grandchildren and Numerous Great Grandchildren and counting. He is preceded in death by his wife Karma, for which they were married almost 55 years prior to her death in 2008, sons Brian and David, daughter-in-law Eileen, parents and siblings Lester, Nessie, Wendell, Grant, Lois, Max, and Angeline.

Graveside Services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 12:30 p.m. at the South Jordan City Cemetery located at 10630 South 1055 West, South Jordan, Utah. A Private Family Viewing will be held prior to the Services. The Graveside service will also be available on Zoom at the following link. https://zoom.us/j/8012878233

Myron I will miss you. We have been pals since our childhood. Then we found each other when we lived in the Legacy Village and became friends again. Why did you have to go so soon. Our Father in Heaven only knows. So I’m ready to come home to be together in Heaven. All our family died in the same order they were born. So I’m next. Ready and willing to see you in Heaven. Love my brother and we will soon be childhood friends again. I send my love to my best brother and friend. Ila ReVoe T Petersen will se you again.

Uncle Myron, I’m sure you are happily visiting with family and friends and are glad to be with Karma.
Uncle Myron and aunt Karma were loved by many. As children of Grant, we loved visiting Uncle Myron and aunt Karma, Myron reminded me of my dad and I always wondered if they were actually twins, but wouldn’t let anyone know.
I have many good memories of uncle Myron and he and my dad used to tease each other and talk of times in Clarkston on the farm. He will be missed.
