Luke Thomas DeLaMare
2001 ~ 2019
Our light-bringer, Luke Thomas DeLaMare, lived a life full of love and joy. From the beginning to the very end of his short 18 years, he seized life, radiated enthusiasm, and lifted those around him with his infectious smile and optimism.
Never was there a boy more eager to get outside and find an adventure. He loved all things outdoors, including hiking, rock-climbing, mountain biking, skiing, backpacking, wake-boarding, long-boarding, shooting, motorcycling, and, frankly, anything to do with fire. Luke was blessed with a ridiculous amount of coordination and the ability to “send it.” He was known for his flips, tricks and big air.
Luke drew comfort from the beauty of the earth and loved nothing more than a blazing sunset, a gentle sunrise, the view from the summit of a mountain, and sleeping under the stars. And, he loved his dog Indie.
Luke was an entrepreneur and a hard worker who started his own lawn mowing business at age 11. He played competition soccer, worked at Bountiful Bicycle, was a talented photographer, earned his Eagle Scout award, went on a Humanitarian trip to Peru, graduated from Bountiful High School, and went skydiving to celebrate his 18th birthday.
People flocked to Luke because he naturally loved everyone regardless of their walk in life. He was inclusive and kind-hearted, spontaneous and clever, hard-working and strong, loyal and true. He had a witty sense of humor and a heart of gold. Luke’s far-reaching influence touched countless lives during his valiant fight against cancer. On the night he died, friends paid tribute at his home and held vigils on his street.
Luke had a deep and abiding love for his Savior Jesus Christ, and experienced firsthand the cleansing and healing power of His Atonement. As Luke’s battle with Glioblastoma Grade 4 Brain Cancer came to an end, he exclaimed, “Can you believe that the Savior suffered this much, plus more for us?” Luke fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith. He overcame sorrow and pain with the world’s best attitude and an eternal perspective that life extends past the grave, and that families are forever. Luke always wanted to serve a mission and made great strides to be worthy and ready to serve alongside his best friend and sister, Sage, who is currently a missionary in Japan.
Luke was born on a beautiful spring morning in Bountiful; he started his new adventure in the next life on September 11, 2019 while surrounded by family and loved ones in his home. We love our Luke, and pray that those who want to pay tribute to his wonderful life will do following his last words to “STRIVE to live your best!” Luke strived for life and adventure; he strived to let his light shine as his favorite scripture said. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) Luke taught us that light conquers fear and love conquers pain. Live on Luke! Serve with all your might, mind and soul – and enjoy backflipping with your new found freedom!
Luke was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his parents, Rich and Amy DeLaMare of Bountiful, Utah, and his 5 siblings, Sage (20), Seth (15), Ava (15), Elsa (12), and Clare (8); his grandparents, John & Carolyn DeLaMare, and Ron & Irene Stout; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Gatherings will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints:

Beautiful tribute, I didn’t know Luke but I feel the spirit and light he shed on those who did. Thank goodness for the Atonement, thank goodness that families are ours forever.
Oh Amy and Rich we love you and are praying for your continuous comfort and love at this tender time.
What a joy to have a sweet young man like Luke. He was called to a much needed mission I believe and it will be such a magnificent reunion for those who have gone before!
My heart is ever with you and your wonderful family❤️ Thank you for your example of love and strength to all who know you!
Oh Amy. This is beautiful. Perfectly sums up Luke. I miss him so much already. He’s just so jolly and joyful to be around. I’ll miss his huge smile, warm greetings and laugh that all happened at the same time he saw me. I’ll miss the sound of his voice too. So glad to know him.
Love,
Krista
Beautiful. Amy! Certainly sums up a life worthy of observation and emulation!
Luke was my seminary partner at BHS for a short time. His smile could fill a room, and I’m so grateful for the time I had to get to know him. This beautiful tribute perfectly matches the kind of light Luke was.
What a wonderful tribute! It makes me want to be a better person. He certainly lived life to it’s fullest in his short time here. We are thinking of you and praying for the warmth of the atonement to surround you and your family at this time.
Beautifully written tribute!
Seriously feel so blessed to have known Luke through his wonderful friendship with our son Jens. Luke was definitely infectious with his positive energy and contagious smile—he always, even the last few times we saw him in the last few weeks, had this positivity and energy about him that made you happy to just to be alive and around him. I am so grateful for the gift of his friendship with Jens—Luke inspired him and helped him grow in so many different ways. Thank you to Amy and Rich for welcoming Jens into your family and for your support of his friendship not only with Luke but with the two of you—you have an amazing family and spirit. Jen so enjoyed going on hikes, skydiving, hammocking, playing with Indie, and many other adventures, (some involving fire 😉) but mostly just hanging out with Luke and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Richard and Amy we are so sorry for the passing of Luke. What a beautiful tribute to him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
Luke was one of my really good friends when I was younger, I remember I would go up to his house and we would play airsoft or just run around and have fun. He had like this energy that just brought a smile to everyone’s face and he was always happy and always doing something that looked like so much fun, I’ll miss him so much and I wish I talked to him so much more when I moved to California . I’ll miss him with all my heart I love you Luke I hope you riding some MT bikes up there❤️❤️
