Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Dickerson

Dickerson Elizabeth Double

1934 ~ 2014

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Dickerson passed away peacefully March 17, 2014, with family around her.  Her Dad delivered her May 3, 1934, on a homestead near Hassell, NM.  Later the family moved to Missouri where she met and married James Vernon on Dec. 5, 1953.  They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.  Betty was a tough, country woman; she never complained through multiple surgeries, cancer, radiation treatments and being bedridden for over two years.  She was smart, a whiz at crossword puzzles, enjoyed reading, crafts, loved children and animals and had the patience of a saint.  She said several times she didn’t have a stern voice, and it was true.  Not even to tell the puppy to stop licking her from her bedside.  She was her children’s rock and always there for them.  Her greatest accomplishment was her family, and she loved and worried about them to the end.   She is survived by her adoring husband, James Vernon, seven children, Mike (Tami), George (Carrie), Marie (Jack), David (Julie), Cindy, Joe (Ana), Rose, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers, Bob (Kie), John (Daisy), George, a sister, Evelyn, and Mr. Kitty who moved from New Mexico to Utah with her when her health was declining.  She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Elizabeth June. Thanks to family for their support during the last two years.  Also, thanks to Millcreek Home Health and Hospice for all their care, especially Ximena and Emily and to her caregivers, Donna and Courtney.  They brought smiles to her face and loved her for her sweetness and wit.  Per her wishes, she will be cremated.  There will be a memorial on Saturday, March 22nd, from 3-6 pm at 4517 W. Ripple Drive, West Jordan, UT.
