David Myles Spainhower

Dave Spainhower passed away March 11, 2021 in St George, Utah due to complications of Covid-19. Dave was born May 7, 1956 in Salt Lake City, the third child and only son of Myles Spainhower and Patra Lorraine Johnson Spainhower. He grew up spoiled by his two older sisters, Lynda and Carrie, and had a wonderful childhood in their Rose Park neighborhood. He always thought it was a great place to grow up. There were lots of family activities that kept the family close, including camping trips, picnics, and visiting family. Dave graduated from West High School in 1974 and a few years later started his career at Mountain Fuel, where he would work for the next 36 years, retiring in 2017. Dave married Diane Dunnigan in 1979 and in 1980 their son Ryan was born. Dave and Diane later divorced. Dave was a wonderful father to Ryan, making sure they were always busy doing things together. In 2007 Dave met Glenna Winn and it quickly became apparent to him that they were meant to be together. Glenna brought to Dave what he had been missing for many years and they were married December 12, 2012. Dave admitted they chose that day so that he could always remember their anniversary, 12-12-12. Dave and Glenna enjoyed their life together, traveling and especially four wheeling with their many friends and family. They bought a home in Hurricane which extended his riding season and gave him more friends to ride with. To Dave, life couldn’t get better than being out in his four-wheeler with his many friends and family. Dave always made sure everyone had a good time and his motto seemed to be “the more the merrier.” Shortly before he became ill with Covid Dave told Glenna how lucky he was to have such a great life. Dave was a big man, but his heart was even bigger. Dave was preceded in death by his father Myles, who passed away in 1995, and by his mother, who passed away in 2020. He was a devoted son, calling his mother every morning and visiting her every Sunday. He is survived by his wife, Glenna, his son Ryan, and his three sisters, Lynda (Tony), Carrie (Steve), and Jane (Murray), as well as many nieces and nephews, many of whom thought of him as their favorite uncle. There will not be a memorial service at this time, but the family plans to celebrate Dave’s life at a later date. The time and place will be announced on Dave’s Facebook page.

I just love Dave. I worked with Dave at the gas company His greatest joy was taking care of the elderly customers He just really connected with them and they adored him as well. He is a great example of kindness and I will miss his great laugh and his welcoming and friendly embrace!

I was one of the luck ones to be Dave’s friend since elementary school. As he would say I was a Rose Parker. Dave helped introduce me to the world of ATV’s and my first ride on my new unit was with Dave. It was one of his favorite places the Unitas. I will always be grateful!

I have been Dave’s friend since meeting him at Utah Technical College in 1977. He has been so good at keeping in touch over the years and as result has made me better at doing the same. His happy voice, inspiring emails and loyal friendship will be missed. He always made me feel that he was close by. He has never been happier since meeting and marrying Glenna. Good bye good friend.

We kept in contact many times a week via FB and Messenger. Feel I know him well. He is a “Kindred Spirit” with his cousins in Seattle, Arizona and New Mexico. Spread out in miles only. Such a loss at such a young age. Praying for comfort for Glenna,Ryan, Lynda,Carrie, Jane and all that loved him dearly.
Quick story: many years ago my sister and I were in Utah for a reunion. We went to see our Mom and Dad’s gravesite. Who was there having his lunch? Dave. Not planned and we were more than amazed to see him having his lunch with those he loved but had gone on to be with Jesus. What a heart if gold. Rare and so blessed to call him Cousin.
