Consuelo “Connie” Cupid Payan
Kearns, Utah
Our beautiful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Consuelo “Connie” Cupid Payan, passed away five minutes before midnight on October 13, 2021, surrounded by her children and niece at the St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah due to complications of COVID-19.
Connie was born in Bakersfield, California on September 16, 1958 to Mary and Atlee Ahalt. Her parents later divorced but remained close friends until they passed away.
Connie had eleven siblings: six sisters and five brothers whom she adored. They were all close and enjoyed spending time together.
Connie is survived by many family members and will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children: Mathew, Angela, and Brandon Montoya; her grandchildren: Ava, Aliveah, and Gabe; her siblings: Shirley Burringo, Mary (Arthur) Valdez, Lupe (Bessie) Guerrero, Virginia Espinoza, Mary Helen Guerrero, Priscilla Castanuela (Lee Manzanares), Joe (Toney) Guerrero, and Hope Cervantez; Godchildren: Charley Paulino, Enrique Valdez, and Carlina Trevizo— as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Connie loved her family so very much. She enjoyed going to family gatherings, learning about family history, and getting to know about her mother’s life as a young woman. Family was truly everything to her. She made it a priority to attend all of the family reunions, birthday parties, baby showers, and weddings. She showed her love and support for her family by showing up and being present.
Connie also loved listening to many genres of music especially music from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. She enjoyed dancing to Mexican music, old school Hip-Hop and reminiscing about back in her younger days. One of her fondest memories as a young adult that she enjoyed sharing was when she bought her first car, a 1964 and a half, baby blue Ford Mustang.
Connie loved her beautiful grandkids Ava, Aliveah, and Gabe, so very much. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for them. At the time of her passing, her granddaughter, Ava, lived with her and they had developed a very special bond.
Connie was very close to her children and she loved them all dearly. She enjoyed spending time with them and cherished the memories that she lovingly shared with each of them. Her sons, Matthew and Brandon were very special to her. Her daughter, Angela, was more than her daughter but also her best friend.
Connie enjoyed bargain shopping as well as selling various items online. This was a hobby that kept her busy and interacting with like-minded individuals. She truly enjoyed meeting new people and creating new friendships.
Connie enjoyed working with her coworkers who became like family. She often spoke of their support and kind gestures that made her day brighter.
This past summer, Connie became a homeowner and was very proud of this accomplishment. It was very important to her to have a home where she could create new memories with her family. She was looking forward to “getting things just right” so she could begin hosting family gatherings as this is something she missed & enjoyed doing.
Connie was many things to many people. And the one thing that she made sure we all knew is that she loved us very much. Her love and kindness is a great loss that is being felt by many.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Gertrude Ahalt, her father, Atlee Ahalt, and her brothers, Philip Ahalt, Toby Guerrero, Charlie Guerrero, and her favorite uncle, Joe Rodriguez. She loved them all deeply.
Connie’s children would like to give a special “thank you” to their cousin, Connie’s niece, Pauline Caraveo, for being there for their mom and providing her comfort during her final days.
Due to the restrictions on social gatherings, the family has requested that those attending wear a mask until seated. Also, please no small children if possible.

Cupid truly was who she was, full of love at all times. A laugh we’ll miss forever and jokes that we could all laugh about. I’m eternally grateful for the special love my children and I shared with her. A true Angel of love in our lives. We will miss you everyday and never forget you. All the love and condolences to the family. You will all forever be held in a special place in our hearts. We love you Connie… forever all our love May you rest in love
you will be missed grandma we miss you and love you so much.
“Connie” was a kind person and easy to get along with. We worked at Molina together as part of the same Operations team for awhile until her team transitioned to another area. But we still worked probably within about 25 feet of each other afterwards. She was a great coworker and I appreciated her contributions in our meetings as well. Even after her team moved, we still ate lunch together at the same table on occasion, and had some good conversations about life, religion, politics, family, recreation, etc. I know she’ll be missed at work, and my heart goes out to her family.
Connie was such a sweet soul where I always enjoyed her company. She always seemed to take things in stride and was blessed with a wonderful demeanor. I know I will miss her.
Dear family, my prayer for all of you as you grieve the loss of dear Connie. I knew hear from Calvary, we were good BibleStudy friends. She was always kind , sweet , and we sat together learning together.
I know that God cares for the broken-hearted , and I know what that feels like. Our greatest comfort is the Lord. I am praying for Peace to come comfort you, for this loving family to draw nearer to one another – for this is what Connie loved. Keep planning family times together. Take the time to call and spend time with one another while you have each other. Life is a precious gift we have today. Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is not promised. So surround yourself with loving and caring for each other.
